This week the Office Hours Hangout team spoke with Simon Jakesch and Jason Barnhill, two of the team behind Rackspace’s Containers as a Service product, Carina.

Today at the OpenStack Summit in Tokyo, Rackspace announced Carina, a free public beta of a new service that allows you to create managed clusters for running containers in the cloud using the same tools you use today for running containers locally on your own computer. As the architect of Rackspace’s global container strategy, I’d like to explain what makes Carina different from the technical perspective, and share our philosophy behind the service.

If you use a Rackspace single-tenant Dedicated VMware® vCenter Server™ (Dedicated vCenter) hosting solution or Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware vCloud® (Dedicated vCloud), you can now access the latest version of the VMware IT operations management tool, VMware vRealize Operations 6.1 (vROps 6.1).
Rackspace Cloud Files is a massively scalable cloud object storage system built using OpenStack Swift. As with other OpenStack projects, Swift is written in Python to take advantage of its rich technical features, fast delivery of capabilities and quick ramp-up time for developers to contribute.
This is an interesting time for organizations that are heavily invested in Microsoft technologies.
