This is a guest post written and contributed by Daniela Sztulwark (@danielaszt), marketing manager at BlazeMeter, a Rackspace Cloud Tools partner. BlazeMeter (www.blazemeter.com) is a self-service, web and mobile load testing platform (PaaS) providing developers an enterprise grade, out-of-the-box load testing solution and is 100 percent compatible with the popular open source softwares Apache JMeter™ and Selenium.
Why we can’t sufficiently stress the value impact of performance and load testing
Today, users of web and mobile applications, generally developers, devops and QA, demand error-free user experiences that are not only fast and seamless, but more powerful, especially because many enterprise solutions and resources are now available on-demand. The industry requirements for powerful load and performance testing have exploded as management has grown to understand the value of performance testing and the potential negative financial impact when it is not implemented. Purse strings have opened to allow budgeting for performance related technologies. According to IDC, the budget for ASQ technologies is growing fast and will result in a projected $1 billion in revenue by 2015 and $1.1 billion by 2016. That’s a lot of money being allocated toward good performance.
There is increased pressure on developers to quickly create new applications and churn out new features. Stellar performance has become imperative and even the de-facto practice. Developers cannot develop at such a rate while also being required to repeatedly build, run and analyze performance scenarios from scratch. This is where BlazeMeter’s unique technology has successfully tackled major load testing challenges like reliability, scalability, availability and security.
BlazeMeter’s load testing cloud: Making life better for devops, developers and QA teams around the world.
BlazeMeter’s on-demand performance testing platform generates realistic traffic from numerous geographical locations to simulate up to hundreds of thousands of concurrent virtual users and devices. Each virtual user simulates a REAL user using a REAL browser or device. They can be allocated with a number of unique characteristics (e.g. username, password, credit card, etc.). The traffic is generated according to a predefined script that can also simulate different user profiles working in parallel.
Have you ever run a hybrid load test?
Yeah, we do that.
Most recently, we ran tests which included 3,000 simulated Android devices from Europe and 4,000 simulated iPhone devices from the US. We set some of these users to perform a registration, some to log into their individual accounts and others to just browse around using our “hybrid load generation” option.
Using our detailed real-time reports and analytics pinpoints bottlenecks and performance issues. Development teams can easily run tests repeatedly over the course of a day or anytime. Furthermore, they can do so rapidly because even the most complex tests can be up and running within 10 minutes.
Users can also share the reports, complete with highly detailed reporting and analytics, and compare with teammates. We also recommend using our test compare option to hold load testing competitions that show which developers have created the better applications.

BlazeMeter also works out-of-the-box with CI and APM tools such as Jenkins, Team City (JetBrains) and New Relic.
Watch: Getting started with BlazeMeter:
To start load testing with BlazeMeter, sign up for a free account (no credit card required). If you are a qualified startup, you may be eligible for some free load testing. If you are looking for an enterprise solution (including on-premise load generation), we’ve got that covered too. We look forward to hearing from you.
