In January 2012, entrepreneurs from all over the country arrived for the first ever TechStars Cloud accelerator hosted at Geekdom in the Weston Centre in downtown San Antonio. The program centered around startups working exclusively on cloud computing, cloud infrastructure and OpenStack. TechStars Cloud was completely focused on investing in and mentoring the best talent building businesses that fall within the cloud vertical. And the Rackspace Startup Program was there to welcome them to the Alamo City.
Today was the culmination of three months of hard work, sleepless nights and a few tears for the startups. Introducing Demo Day at TechStars Cloud! Under the tutelage of Jason Seats, Managing Director of TechStars Cloud, and Nicole Glaros, Managing Director of TechStars Boulder, who temporarily relocated to San Antonio with her family; 11 companies presented their ideas to a packed house at the Charline McCombs Empire Theater.
“TechStars Cloud is a three month boot camp for startups,” cited Seats in the opening welcome to the show. “It’s actually early days for the Internet and there is so much more to build. We are excited about the infrastructure technology that has been developed in San Antonio over the last three months.” David Cohen, founder and CEO of TechStars, followed Seats by saying, “TechStars was born to enhance the entrepreneurial spirit. I’m super proud of these companies.”
Between the TechStars Cloud company pitches, Sean Elliott was on hand to introduce the entertainment; First Robotics from San Antonio demonstrated their basketball playing abilities with robots. And Sean let us in on a little secret: he is a technology geek, as well as a San Antonio Spurs NBA champion and current sports caster with Fox Sports Southwest.
