A Look Back at 2016

This was an incredibly exciting year for Datapipe. We made some major announcements and acquired a company that will allow us to do even more in the coming years. Here’s a look at some of our favorite memories from 2016.

The Release of Trebuchet

Last month, we introduced Trebuchet™, a comprehensive set of proven processes combined to create an end-to-end platform that will accelerate cloud deployment of enterprise applications. It’s a platform that will help developers architect, design, built, test, and deploy software rapidly while meeting security and governance requirements. In addition, it will help executives and IT managers deliver value to customers, drive their businesses forward, and stay ahead of the market and competitors.

A New Acquisition

We acquired leading UK managed cloud services provider and Advanced AWS Consulting Partner Adapt this fall and already we’ve seen some great benefits. The Adapt team is full of knowledgeable and experienced people, not to mention they’ve helped expand our presence in Europe.

Additionally, we built our first data center in Russia this summer, designed in part to accommodate the growing demand for e-commerce throughout the country. We’re excited to head into 2017 with Adapt and continue helping guide our clients’ cloud journeys on a global level.

Strengthening Partnerships

Our relationship with AWS has been going strong for more than six years, and we received some special recognition during the year. We were part of the first group of the AWS Competency Program, which is granted to APN Partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and proven customer success in specialized solution areas. Further, we are the only AWS managed services provider (MSP) partner with global hybrid capabilities to earn SOC2 compliance out of the originally selected AWS Premier Partners. And at this year’s re:Invent, we were named one of the first partners in the new AWS Public Sector Partner Program and AWS Service Delivery Programs.

We’ve continued our great relationship with Microsoft, as well. In 2016, we unveiled Datapipe Managed Cloud for Office 365. This provides managed administration services – including 24x7x365 monitoring and support, diagnostics, program resolution, migration, patching, and upgrades – all backed by the company’s deep operational expertise with managing Microsoft applications for the enterprise.

Finally, we were named a global MSP partner of Alibaba Cloud. This enables us to do quite a few things:

  • As an Alibaba Cloud managed service provider partner, Datapipe helps Chinese companies expand globally and enables international companies to enter China.
  • Datapipe supports the design, build, deployment, and management of Alibaba Cloud solutions for computing, storage, database, CDN, and big data.
  • Customer benefits include best-practice cloud deployment, localized security and compliance, hybrid cloud access to Datapipe’s 22 data centers across Asia, North America, and Europe, and the guidance of a trusted partner with 15 years of experience in international cloud deployments.

It’s very important to us to continue to add platforms to our capabilities that make hybrid a possibility. We don’t want to lock our customers into one platform, but rather give them options based on their individual needs. We look forward to developing our offerings in 2017 and beyond.

Awards and Accolades

Our New Year’s resolution is to build a bigger shelf. We took home a lot of awards and accolades in 2016, and are truly honored to be recognized for the work we do. We earned a Gold Stevie Award from the American Business Awards and were recognized in three additional categories: Customer Service Department of the Year, Most Innovative Tech Company of the Year, and Company of the Year in Computer Services categories. We added three more at the Annual International Business Awards, the world’s premier business awards program, bringing the company’s total count to 21 Stevie Awards over the past eight years.

Just earlier this month, Datapipe won Cloud Project of the Year at the 2016 Storage, Virtualisation, Cloud (SVC) Awards in central London. The award was presented in recognition of the solution Datapipe provides to BMJ, the healthcare knowledge provider behind medical journal The BMJ.

Gartner also named us a “Visionary” in the Magic Quadrant for Cloud-Enabled Managed Hosting, Asia Pacific for the second year running. Our early lead in hybrid cloud services was noted as a distinguishing factor highlighted in this year’s report. Gartner also saw that Datapipe is one of the few providers supporting AWS and Microsoft Azure for infrastructure and managed services. Additionally, our support for Aliyun, the leading public cloud in China, was cited as a strength.

We were also named Asia Pacific Managed Cloud Company of the Year by Frost & Sullivan in their recent Best Practices Award, and the 2016 Talkin’ Cloud 100 Research Report had us as the #1 cloud service provider. And for the 8th time, we appeared on NJBIZ’s list of Fastest Growing Companies.

All of the above is a testament to our hard work and determination to help our clients put their best foot forward. We’re looking forward to 2017, and are excited for what lies ahead.

Rich Dolan serves as Senior Director of Rackspace Corporate Marketing, which includes analyst relations, public and media relations, blog, customer reference, social marketing, brand and content management. Previously Senior Vice President of Marketing for Datapipe, Rich made the move to Rackspace after it acquired Datapipe in late 2017. Rich spent 16 years at Datapipe, developing and driving its world class marketing team as the company grew into one of the leading global managed service providers, from the early days as a start up to a global enterprise player. He built and oversaw digital marketing and demand generation, event management, content management, internal communications, brand management, partner marketing and web properties. Rich managed the consolidation of marketing resources from five acquisitions, and led Datapipe to thirteen Gartner Magic Quadrant recognitions across the globe, including four placements in the Leaders quadrant. Before Datapipe, Rich spent four years with web design firm RareMedium, where he designed and architected web presences and client facing applications for Madison Square Garden, JP Morgan, Atlantis, XM Radio and Credit Suisse First Boston. Rich graduated summa cum laude from the New York Institute of Technology with a BA in computer graphics. He lives in New York with his wife and daughter.
