Carlsberg[1], the Danish company that claims to brew “probably the best beer in the world”, just recently completed their Best Mate Contest, in search for a Canadian male, over the age of 21, that had “style, spirit and schmooze-ability”. The project was hosted on Cloud Sites[2].

Fans of Carlsberg caught on quickly and were entering themselves and nominating their friends to participate – imagine the possibilities. Over a course of a month, Carlsberg chose their phase one winners. These contestants were given a Carlsberg Fan Page on Facebook and had to build their fan base with videos, photos and context that described why they deserved to be Carlsberg’s Best Mate. The prize? A trip for four (the Best Mate and his posse) to Las Vegas.

The Ads of the World[3] quotes:

The Best Mates did everything from putting a billboard up in Toronto’s club district, shot numerous videos, created their own ads, dyed their hair Carlsberg green, dressed in Carlsberg suits, went sky-diving with Carlsberg merchandise in-hand, baked Carlsberg cupcakes, and promoted themselves and the contest on local radio stations.

The Best Mate prize went to Wesly Watt[4].

Congrats to Wesley and congrats to Carlsberg for the execution of a smart and successful contest and a super sweet website. Thanks for choosing “probably the best cloud computing[5] provider in the world” to host the site.
