Deploy Adobe Experience Manager on AWS in Minutes with New Managed Service

Editor’s Note: Managed Cloud for Adobe Experience Manager is no longer available from Rackspace. Learn more about Rackspace solutions for Adobe Experience Manager here.

When the Rackspace Digital Product team started looking at building managed platforms to run digital workloads, our aim was to create applications that our customers log in and work with, rather than manage, host, configure, and maintain. That’s because the faster a customer can work with their application, the faster they can get their content to market.

Today, we’re proud to release Managed Cloud for Adobe Experience Manager, a managed automation platform on Amazon Web Services infrastructure that will help solve the complexities of AWS with Rackspace Fanatical Support and expertise.

With Managed Cloud for AEM, customers can deploy an AEM environment in as little as 30 minutes, allowing digital marketing leadership to quickly create new sites without the burden of relying on IT to set up and create their environment.

As we set out to build this platform, we first identified a common set of components, like auto-scaling, blue-green deployments, automated cloning of environments, self-healing, simple pricing and the ability to get applicable metrics from the environment and application of interest.

We also wanted to provide simple yet elegant user interfaces that allow users to manage their environments while still interacting with their web content management application in ways they’re used to.

Here are a few components of Managed Cloud for AEM I think customers will really appreciate.

First, Managed Cloud for AEM is designed to be robust and redundant. Designing architectures that are highly available and fault tolerant is important, and that importance is multiplied when running applications in the cloud.

Environments that automatically correct themselves when VMs fail or services go down are of critical importance to maintain uptime. Managed Cloud for AEM implements best practices for AWS, automatically building in multiple availability zones. It also contains capabilities that orchestrate the self-healing of authors and publishers by executing a series of workflows to ensure that publishers always have the most up to date changes.

In fact, we feel so confident in our ability to run Experience Manager that we are also including a 100 percent application uptime guarantee as part of our Managed Cloud for AEM legal terms and conditions!

Second, Managed Cloud for AEM contains the ability to clone environments. Cloning creates an identical but separate copy of an environment and copies not only infrastructure configuration but also AEM data. This opens up a wide variety of code pipeline options for users of Managed Cloud for AEM, including a blue-green deployment. For example, a user can execute a blue-green deployment by cloning production, making changes on the clone, and then swap the DNS record to the clone to send live traffic to it.

Third, Managed Cloud for AEM has batteries-included support for AppDynamics, one of the industry leading application performance monitoring products.

AppDynamics offers our 24x7x365 AEM application support engineers deep insight into our customers’ environments by seeing application metrics and graphs. It allows them to identify and fix performance bottlenecks that hinder customers’ sites from running efficiently. Our engineers will also assist in setting up a custom AppDynamics dashboard for each customer, tailored to their specific environment and code base.

Finally, Managed Cloud for AEM is launching with an intuitive, bundled pricing model that will provide a simple, easy to understand bill for customers. The price includes all AWS resources and infrastructure, 24x7x365 Rackspace infrastructure and application support, a healthy amount of bandwidth traffic and AppDynamics license costs.

While quoted as monthly costs, our billing service actually aggregates usage and calculates prices hourly. This means if an additional development environment is only needed for three days, the customer only gets charged for three days of usage. This allows customers to better estimate their expenditures and avoid surprises at the end of the month.
