Driving Forward as the OpenStack Cloud Leader

Leadership is an honor and a responsibility.

Recognition for being the best in your field by peers and users in the industry is not to be taken lightly. It is the result of hard work and dedication to customers that can only be described as fanatical.

It also comes with a mandate — to give back to the community that has recognized you.

That’s why Rackspace is always grateful and indebted when we receive accolades from respected research firms such as IT Brand Pulse, which recently recognized us as the clear OpenStack leader, based on its global survey of IT pros. Among the four included OpenStack product categories in the survey, Rackspace swept the leader titles in three.

Survey highlights

  • OpenStack Service Providers – Rackspace earned the Market, Price, Performance, Reliability, Service & Support and Innovation leader awards.
  • OpenStack Services – Rackspace secured Market, Price, Performance, Reliability, Service & Support and Innovation leadership in OpenStack Services.
  • OpenStack Training – Continuing to be at the top of respondents’ minds for OpenStack, Rackspace earned all six leader titles — Market, Price, Performance, Reliability, Service & Support and Innovation — for OpenStack training.

As always, it is gratifying to see Rackspace recognized for our leadership in OpenStack and as a pioneer in the managed OpenStack services market. We continue to operate the world’s largest OpenStack public cloud and currently operate some of the world’s largest OpenStack private clouds.

Continuing as the OpenStack leader

I’ve written previously about Rackspace’s position as the leader and standard-bearer for the OpenStack project and our commitment to maturing OpenStack as the de facto private cloud platform. This informs our contributions to the community, be it code commits, bug fixes, organizing the community, or sharing our expertise. The latter, in particular, has been of particular importance to the community given that are the only company with more than one billion server hours of OpenStack experience.

Rackspace shares our experience and expertise though a number of forums, including leading working groups within the OpenStack Foundation, presenting at bi-annual OpenStack Summits, publishing ‘how-to’ and ‘lessons learned’ in blog posts and training users through classes and the OpenStack innovation Center.

And we recognize there is still more to do.

We’ve undertaken an initiative to make our front door to the world, the OpenStack private cloud page on Rackspace.com, a resource center for those who want to learn more about OpenStack and private clouds. From this resource page, the IT community will be able to access resources such as blog posts, demo videos and white papers.

The first of these new resources is a white paper that explains how Rackspace is driving OpenStack forward through our work in the community and by creating the best managed OpenStack private cloud solution in the world. We will be posting new content regularly — By making the OpenStack community stronger, we hope to drive innovation for all.
