Gartner has published its very first evaluation of Rackspace and other providers of managed services on the three leading public clouds: AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform. This is a new area of focus for Gartner, which publishes influential annual evaluations of vendors in several slices of the IT industry.

…Rackspace is positioned in the Leaders quadrant, where everyone aspires to be.
I’m proud but not surprised that we’re a Leader, and positioned among companies who have been supporting third party clouds much longer than we have. The credit rests with the expert Rackers who have rapidly built our Fanatical Support for AWS and Fanatical Support for Microsoft Azure businesses into industry leaders. While those businesses are just 14 months and 19 months old, respectively, growth rates for both are in the high double digits.
And just last week, we announced our new managed support for Google Cloud Platform. With Google Certified Professionals already on staff, we expect to begin serving beta customers in the coming months.
I believe it is our long track record of delivering expertise and Fanatical Support, and our unique DevOps managed services, which led Gartner to position us as a Leader. After all, we are the only provider who has built and operated one of the world’s largest clouds. We have leveraged the knowledge from that experience and expertise to be able to offer high-quality, hyperscale managed cloud services.
This brand new quadrant, officially titled the “Magic Quadrant for Public Cloud Infrastructure Managed Service Providers, Worldwide” shouldn’t be confused with the Cloud Enabled Managed Hosting Magic Quadrant, which Gartner launched in 2014. That year and in 2015, Rackspace was positioned highest for ability to execute and furthest for completeness of vision. Gartner retired that evaluation in 2016.
That assessment focused on the enterprise-class cloud-enabled managed hosting market and the multiple delivery models used including: multi-tenant, on the provider’s premises, single-tenant, on the provider’s premises and single-tenant, on the customer’s premises.
The industry-leading depth of our portfolio enables Rackspace to meet the needs of the growing number of companies that are currently using or plan to use multiple clouds — across public and private clouds and dedicated servers, as affirmed by RightScale’s annual State of the Cloud report published earlier this month.
This assessment is brand new, and we view the leaders quadrant as a crowded field with the lead position left open. Over the coming year, Rackspace will work tirelessly to define and lead this market segment. We’re expanding our capabilities by hiring and training more Rackers to provide expertise and exceptional support to enterprises, and that will continue to move our managed AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform businesses sharply up and to the right. I’m confident that our position in next year’s MSP Magic Quadrant will do the same.
