Kicking Off the 5th Annual OpenStack Israel Day

With an increasing number of Israeli businesses running their workloads on Rackspace Private Cloud powered by OpenStack, the timing for this year’s OpenStack Israel Day, which is being held in Tel-Aviv on June 2nd, couldn’t be better.

Now in its 5th year, OpenStack Israel Day regularly boasts more than 400 attendees. Rackspace is a platinum sponsor of this year’s event, which will feature keynotes from OpenStack International Director at Rackspace Frank Weyns, who will share his thoughts on what success with OpenStack looks like.

Attendees will also hear from Executive Director of the OpenStack Foundation Jonathan Bryce, CTO and Founder of Gigaspaces Nati Shalom, as well as CERN OIS Group Leader Tim Bell.

The OpenStack Foundation, Rackspace and the community as a whole recognize that participation in OpenStack events is not just limited to twice-yearly trips to OpenStack Summits. Regional events such as the OpenStack Days offer local members of the OpenStack community the opportunity to gather and learn from specific regional expertise and worldwide experience.

Through a strong partnership with Israeli telecommunications company Bezeq International, Rackspace has penetrated the Israeli enterprise market and also provides additional training courses in Israel throughout the year.

Heading this effort is Eli Mansoor, who leads sales for Rackspace in Israel. In the short time he’s been at the helm, he’s seen increased interest and adoption of OpenStack in the country, as well as more companies looking to Rackspace for help in on-boarding their internal teams for OpenStack coding. He’s also developed an “OpenStack Essentials” training program, which continues to see increased attendance.

In addition to his efforts, Rackspace Chairman and Co-founder Graham Weston and EVP and President of Global Sales and Marketing Alex Pinchev recently visited Israel where they met with leaders from some of the country’s top companies to discuss Rackspace plans and commitments to the Israeli market.

OpenStack is now on its 13th release, Mitaka, and is seeing increased adoption worldwide. Since its initial release in 2010, the platform has grown in size and complexity to meet the demands of businesses of different sizes as well as the enterprise.

New features mature and over time become mainstream products vying for attention in IT workloads. It is vitally important that users, operators, developers and executives are all given the opportunity to participate and learn from the ever-growing, vibrant OpenStack community.

OpenStack Israel Day has a packaged agenda running with two tracks. The first covers the main components of OpenStack and the second is dedicated to related OpenStack talks and topics. The day even boasts practical hands-on workshops which cover topics such as running Kubernetes and Docker, as well as practical walkthroughs for setting up and running a learning management system on OpenStack.

Rackspace Private Cloud Architect and author Walter Bentley will be leading a session on the correct way for using your OpenStack cloud. Bentley offers years of experience with OpenStack and success with his book, “OpenStack Administration with Ansible,” to help guide you on your OpenStack journey.

Bentley will also also deliver a two day OpenStack automation training session at Bezeq International for attendees interested in learning how to generate value from OpenStack.

After a day of presentations, workshops and giveaways, be sure to wind down with your fellow OpenStackers and enjoy the delights of Tel-Aviv. Israel is an amazing place with amazing people, and it’s a pleasure to be part of a community in this rapidly growing technical innovation hub.
