OpenStack Summit Goes Global

OpenStack Summit Hong Kong is the largest Summit yet, with more than 3,500 attendees. The turnout is an illustration that OpenStack is a truly global project.

OpenStack launched just over three years ago, but it was built on the idea that it would grow into a truly international project, said Rackspace Senior Vice President Jim Curry.

OpenStack Summit Hong Kong marks the first time the Summit has been held outside of the US. According to Curry, bringing the Summit abroad is a great way to drive new members and new interest to the community.

And the impact is already being felt. According to Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenStack Foundation, roughly 65 percent of Summit attendees are first-timers and about 45 percent of attendees are from Asia, which shows that OpenStack has drawn incredible interest on a global level.
