Rackspace Cloudvent Calendar Day 14: How Much Cloud Files Storage Am I Using?

In the spirit of the holiday season, I’m sharing some tips and features of our cloud that you may not know about. In this countdown I’ll have 24 posts for you, each covering a single topic or feature about Rackspace Cloud products. We’ll post one per day so keep checking back!

You can store tons of objects in Cloud Files, and take advantage of volume pricing if you have large storage needs. Today you may be wondering: just how much data do I have in Cloud Files right now? You can find out with an API request!

curl -X HEAD -D - \
     -H "X-Auth-Token: $TOKEN" \

The output will show you how many objects you are storing, how many containers you have, and finally, how much data you are storing in bytes:

HTTP/1.1 204 No Content
 X-Account-Object-Count: 4943
 X-Account-Bytes-Used: 25603957646
 X-Account-Container-Count: 151
 Accept-Ranges: bytes

Hopefully this helps you estimate costs more effectively. Check back tomorrow for another post!
