Rackspace Cloudvent Calendar Day 21: Monitor All The Things

In the spirit of the holiday season, I’m sharing some tips and features of our cloud that you may not know about. In this countdown I’ll have 24 posts for you, each covering a single topic or feature about Rackspace Cloud products. We’ll post one per day so keep checking back!

Cloud Monitoring: the name of this product is a bit of a misnomer. You can use Cloud Monitoring to monitor all sorts of servers and websites, whether they reside in our public cloud, a private cloud we manage for you, dedicated servers hosted with us or inside your data center or at other providers. You can use Cloud Monitoring to stay on top of your most complicated multi-cloud infrastructure or just to monitor a cat website you run for your crazy aunt.

We have monitoring nodes in Dallas, Chicago, Virginia, London and Hong Kong, so if you want to monitor your servers and websites from multiple locations around the world, we have you covered. Cloud Monitoring is great for infrastructure monitoring like load, memory use, ping and port, or if a website is responding. You can even integrate Cloud Monitoring with Chef for an automated way to define your monitoring in your infrastructure deployments.

Infrastructure monitoring with Cloud Monitoring is important, but you can couple it with an account with New Relic to monitor your application performance in real time. All Rackspace customers can get a FREE Standard account with New Relic. New Relic can plug into Java, Python, .NET, PHP and Ruby applications easily.

Monitor everything – you can’t improve something unless you measure it first!
