Following up on our announcement from VMworld Las Vegas, Rackspace has officially launched Early Access of VMware Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) on Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware.
Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware, which now runs VMware SDDC, is a single-tenant private cloud that enables customers to conveniently transition or extend their on-premises VMware workloads into the hosted VMware environment at Rackspace, built on top of the same VMware virtualization and software-defined technologies they use in their datacenters: VMware vSphere, NSX, Virtual SAN and the vRealize Suite. This new offering represents an evolution of our popular Rackspace Dedicated vCenter platform, updated for the software-defined era.
SDDC is a paradigm shift in how IT infrastructure is delivered and consumed. At its core, VMware’s SDDC seeks to transform IT operations by virtualizing networking and storage in the same way that VMware vSphere virtualized compute over a decade ago. By decoupling networking and storage from the underlying physical infrastructure, IT can achieve unprecedented levels of operational agility without sacrificing control, while reducing complexity and shrinking the cost of operations and infrastructure management.
We believe that VMware SDDC has emerged as the foundation on which VMware customers will build their hybrid and multi-cloud future. The strategic partnership announced by AWS and VMware last week and the similar announcement made by IBM and VMware at VMworld 2016 signal the industry-wide acceptance of these trends.
Rackspace helps customers achieve software-defined outcomes
- Reducing complexity: The SDDC must ultimately still reside on physical infrastructure, and the logistics of managing a datacenter as well as the procurement, testing and integration of multiple hardware and software vendor technologies continues to be a pain point for many of the customers and prospects we speak to. Rackspace hosted private cloud solutions eliminate this burden for our customers, and allow customer IT teams to focus on higher value problems such as automating service delivery and improving quality of service to their partners in the lines of business that they serve.
- A best-fit approach to solution design:Well-vetted reference designs for physical and software-defined infrastructure ensure that Rackspace customers can consume the infrastructure they need today with the assurance they can scale to meet the demands of tomorrow. Our ability to deliver solutions custom tailored to a customer’s unique requirements and a customer-first, vendor-agnostic approach allows Rackspace to deliver unique solutions spanning both Rackspace datacenters as well as partner clouds such as AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- Enterprise Grade Connectivity and Security Solutions: Rackspace Private Cloud powered by VMware customers can take advantage of RackConnect Global, which provides highly available, secure private network connectivity between Rackspace and customer premises datacenters as well as other cloud providers, such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services for the ultimate hybrid and multi-cloud solution. Rackspace Managed Security provides deep expertise, leading technology and advanced threat intelligence tailored to your business needs, for a 24x7x365 defense — all at a significantly lower TCO over internally developed security operations centers and comparable managed security service offerings.
- VMware expertise at scale: Rackspace is a vCloud Air Network premier partner with more than 10 years of experience hosting and managing VMware-powered infrastructure solutions. Today, we are proud to be one of the largest VMware service providers in the world with tens of thousands of fully managed VMs running on our Server Virtualization platform. Our engineers are ready to apply the years of operational expertise built operating an enormous global VMware vSphere deployment toward helping customers adopt the next generation of software-defined infrastructure. At Rackspace, over 100 VMware-Certified Professionals are available on-demand 24x7x365 to help enterprises architect, migrate, secure and operate the SDDC infrastructure enabling customers to focus their resources on their business.
As organizations increasingly adopt hybrid and multi-cloud models to meet their business needs, Rackspace is the only leading service provider that not only delivers a choice of public, private and hybrid cloud platforms, along with dedicated services, on the world’s leading cloud technologies, but also provides managed services for world’s leading cloud providers.
