Rackspace Named Red Hat Innovator of the Year and More

Earlier this year at the Red Hat Summit in Boston, Red Hat recognized Rackspace as the 2017 Red Hat Innovator of the Year for collaborating to create Rackspace Private Cloud powered by Red Hat, which delivers OpenStack private clouds as-a-service using Red Hat OpenStack Platform. The honor followed on the heels of Rackspace earning the 2017 Red Hat Innovation Award in the Cloud Infrastructure category.

While winning this award is an incredible honor and has been highlighted by our leadership as a top Rackspace achievement for 2017, the innovation doesn’t end there; Rackspace and Red Hat have continued to improve Rackspace Private Cloud powered by Red Hat since its creation in early 2016.

Since then, Rackspace Private Cloud powered by Red Hat has seen a number of upgrades and refinements that bring even more functionality, stability and security to the platform, including:

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 11, Red Hat’s latest release, which Rackspace will support. Some of the key new features include composable services, custom roles and upgrades, Red Hat CloudForms integration, and changes to the Red Hat OpenStack Platform support lifecycle. This means our customers will enjoy more adaptable and consistent deployment of upgrades, so that they don’t miss out on the latest and greatest OpenStack features in lieu of maintaining stability of their platform. They truly have the best of both worlds.

Optimization of Rackspace’s Red Hat Ceph Storage. Rackspace worked with Red Hat to create our Red Hat Ceph Storage reference architecture with two types of storage nodes — one for performance and one for capacity. Rackspace also requires a minimum of five nodes per cluster. What does this mean? More peace of mind for the user — if one node goes down, a failover enables the user to fix the failed node before it impacts performance or renders the node “read-only.”

In March, we announced new lifecycle support options Rackspace Private Cloud powered by Red Hat customers. Rackspace will support both long-life and standard versions of Red Hat OpenStack Platform as part of our offering. This lifecycle support model addresses the needs and preferences of both customers who play by the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, with a standard three-year lifecycle model, and for those who prefer to upgrade and innovate with each coming release, by offering a  six to 12 month upgrade cycle. Regardless of preferred support option, both deliver a seamless experience to the end user.

And we announced support for Red Hat CloudForms, an enterprise hybrid cloud management platform, in late 2016. Red Hat CloudForms offers a streamlined process by which organizations are able to manage all of their flavors of cloud without tool redundancy or extra staff.

According to analyst IDC, Red Hat CloudForms provides a 436 percent return on investment!  Red Hat and Rackspace like to offer that kind of ROI to our customers.

Rackspace and Red Hat heard our customers loud and clear. They want a fully supported and certified private cloud as a service solution, and that’s what Rackspace Private Cloud powered by Red Hat offers.
