Rackspace Ranks Among the Top 50 Best Workplaces for Hispanic Women

After evaluating more than 800 companies nationwide, LATINA Style Magazine has selected Rackspace as one of the 50 best companies for Latinas, as part of its annual LATINA Style 50 Report.

The results of the report were announced today at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., highlighting companies that have shown a dedicated effort to diverse recruitment and promotion initiatives as well as a commitment to the careers of Latina professionals. Out of the top 50 companies, Rackspace ranked 39th.

Now in its 19th year, the report has become one of the most respected rankings of corporate efforts to promote diversity and provide career advancement opportunities for Hispanic women. The results are distributed to professional and civic groups, national women's organizations and more than 2,000 colleges and universities. Additionally, the rankings are provided to the White House and all members of Congress.

“I’m proud of the efforts we’ve undertaken to be a great place to work for Hispanic women, as well as the other diversity initiatives we’ve put into place,” said Manny Espinoza, director of global diversity and inclusion at Rackspace.

The rankings are compiled from a survey sent out to selected companies each year. The return data is then closely analyzed to determine which companies are leading the way when it comes to diversity in the workplace, as well as recruitment and career advancement opportunities for Latinas.

Criteria for the rankings include companies which have increased the number of Latina employees over the past year and those whose total percentage of the top 20 percent of salary earners are significantly Latina. Initiatives for veterans, such as programs to recruit and support retired and active duty military personnel, are also included.

Creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can succeed is part of the Rackspace DNA, Espinoza said, pointing to the growing list of Racker Resource Groups available to employees as valuable opportunities for increased diversity and inclusion.

Other longtime Rackers shared similar sentiments.

“The biggest appeal for me to become a Racker was the company’s stance on diversity and the importance of creating a place where all Rackers can be themselves,” said Jenny Mendoza, a business consultant with the company.

“As a Latina, being true to my heritage at work has never been a struggle,” she said. “While the tech industry in general is underrepresented by both Hispanics and women, Rackspace has afforded me the honor of being named chair of POWER, the Professional Organization for Women’s Empowerment at Rackspace, which has grown to 900 members across the globe.”

POWER joins seven other resource groups available to all Rackspace employees, including Rackspace Pride, RackVet and VIVA, among others. All of the resource groups are central to Rackspace’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

By implementing this comprehensive strategy, which is aimed at making diversity a global business imperative, Rackspace is acting on the belief that a diverse workplace, and one that encourages employees to bring their authentic selves to work, will promote a more productive and engaging workforce as well as encourage different ways of thinking. Rackspace believes this is the best path towards fostering innovation, creativity and providing the highest quality customer service, all of which are critical to the overall Rackspace mission.

Rackspace also realizes diversity is not a stagnant effort, nor is it a numbers game, and is continuously working to build an inclusive culture and workplace. Being selected as one of the 50 best workplaces for Hispanic women is a wonderful validation of these efforts, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that diversity and inclusion remain top company priorities.
