Rackspace Startup Program Spotlight On Artifact Uprising: Making Tangible, Eco-Friendly Products For Digital Photos On The Rackspace Managed Cloud

Artifact Uprising is an internet-based startup that wants to free your photos from the confines of your smartphone or tablet and bring them back into the physical world. The startup is known for a suite of tangible products for digital photos that is beautiful in its minimalistic design and eco-friendly roots. Its signature products include Instagram-friendly photo books with interior pages printed on 100 percent recycled paper and a collection of wooden products handcrafted with mountain beetle pine.

Prior to launching Artifact Uprising, the founders ran a successful photography business in Denver. When they realized their documented lives were sitting on their phones and computers – with no true, physical place to live- the Artifact Uprising seed was planted.

“It’s something we kept coming back to – that question of ‘what are we leaving behind?’” says AU’s Chief Operating Officer, Jessica Lybeck. “And so the story goes, we were inspired by the disappearing beauty of the tangible. We are a printing company – yes – but at the end of the day we are just a few people who think about that – the stories we’re leaving behind.”

Lybeck says that it’s important for a startup to be able to focus on its core business, without the worry of being able to scale infrastructure due to limited capital. That’s where the Rackspace Startup Program lends a helping hand.

“Every penny counts when you’re building a company,” she says. “The Rackspace Startup Program has helped us divert more resources to growing our business. We need to be able to scale our hosting along with our business, and Rackspace is a company that offers the scalability and support we need.”

What’s on the horizon for Artifact Uprising?

“We seek to cultivate a community of inspired storytellers – of movers, shakers, doers, designers, creatives, artists, thinkers, joy-makers,” concludes Lybeck. “We’re building a great team, working on exciting partnerships and improving our web platform. We believe in the power of community to ignite creativity, and look forward to making a difference in the lives of our customers and employees.”

The Rackspace Startup Program was there to help Artifact Uprising bring tangible products for digital photos onto an ecommerce website. Drop the Startup Team a note and let us know if you need help building your startup.
