Rackspace Startup Program Spotlight On Endao: Quickly Build Business Process Management Tools

Endao is a platform for building Business Process Management (BPM) software with the goal of  improving the design and deployment experience. Most BPM tools either limit what a designer can do in the name of simplicity or flexibility, but the tools are complex, expensive and time consuming to deploy. The Endao platform allows you to build powerful BPM applications very quickly and cost effectively.

John Courtney, Founder and CEO at Endao, says that his experience as an enterprise developer helped him take Endao, a Rackspace Startup Program member, from a hobby to a viable startup.

“I had the desire to create something entirely new from nothing and to build a successful business in the process,” says Courtney. “I spent many years as an enterprise developer. Building enterprise software is not rocket science but the tools available make it seem that way. The Endao platform started as a hobby to see if I could make something better, now it’s a real world platform serving thousands of users.”

In true startup fashion, the Endao concept took shape during Courtney’s spare time at home; and it was self-funded.

“We launched from a kitchen table in July of 2011 and have bootstrapped ever since,” says Courtney. “Over the past two years we’ve built 15 apps for customers on the platform.”

Endao joined the Rackspace Startup Program, which assists entrepreneurs on a global scale through partnerships with accelerator, university and venture capital partners. When self-funded startups need help, the program is there to assist in several ways, continuing in the spirit of Rackspace being a bootstrapped startup not too long ago.

“The quality of the service and the easy to use management tools at Rackspace have been extremely helpful to us,” says Courtney. “The Rackspace Startup Program has been absolutely critical. Since we are bootstrapped, we must allocate resources with extreme discretion. Infrastructure is our No. 1 cost and the backbone of our business, so working with Rackspace and the startup program has been extremely beneficial for us.”

Courtney says that the Startup Program is an integral component of Endao’s future as the company grows into 2014.

“We’re in the middle of building several large enterprise class apps for customers and continuing to improve the platform,” concludes Courtney. “We’ll be hiring our first full-time team members. It’s been just my co-founder and I since the beginning, so that will be a big step.  On the customer side, we’ll be rolling out our biggest apps yet in terms of complexity and users.”

The Rackspace Startup Program and the Rackspace Cloud have helped Endao bring to market 15 applications and counting for customers on its BPM software platform. Drop the Startup Team a note and let us know if you need help building your startup.
