Enplug is building a large and advanced network of social billboards in bars, restaurants, cafes and other high traffic venues. The digital screens feature live social media streams that allow people’s Twitter and Facebook posts, Instagram photos and more to appear instantly on the screens. An Enplug device can turn any TV into a live social feed and more.
This technology has helped make Enplug one of the hottest startups in Los Angeles. The Enplug team has been featured in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Inc. and Fox Business, and Enplug was named a Top 30 Startup in Entrepreneur Magazine last year.
“Enplug is the next generation digital signage platform,” explains Navdeep Reddy, the startup’s co-founder and CIO, adding, “Enplug’s proprietary software stack instantly transforms any HD display into an interactive engagement portal. Venues are able to easily control their displays from anywhere using our simple to use web application.”
With Enplug, venue management can select from a number of apps to display onscreen, including a live Twitter wall, a live Instagram wall, a live Facebook feed, a Yelp review app, a live Foursquare feed, a menu board app and a directory app – just to name a few.
“Venue managers can interact with the display in real-time, using nothing but their mobile device and existing social media accounts,” Reddy says.
Enplug got its start in sunny Southern California. It was originally created as an ad platform to monetize idle times in public places. The company pivoted and built the current iteration of Enplug technology on the Rackspace Managed Cloud.
“The Rackspace Startup Program is an invaluable asset to early stage companies,” Reddy says. “You get access to a world class platform while still operating as a lean organization. Rackspace has an amazing cloud interface, and phenomenal support. The Rackspace Cloud allows you to keep your focus on developing a product without worrying about underlying infrastructure, which allows for development without expending mindshare on infrastructure stability.”
The Enplug team is passionate about ushering in the era of public computing.
“The age of mobile has brought unprecedented connectivity to the world, but at the expense of local interpersonal communication,” Reddy exclaims. “Enplug is at the forefront of the public computing revolution which will have a lasting sociocultural impact.”
Reddy says that Enplug has big plans for the remainder of this year.
“In 2014 expect to see Enplug in every major North American DMA, as well as in major cities internationally,” concludes Reddy. “Some of the interesting things in motion right now include rapid domestic and international expansion, the release of a consumer facing plug and play edition of our product, and partnerships with some major display manufacturers. There’s a very high chance that if you’re reading this now, you might end up with Enplug in your own small business or office before the year ends.”
The Rackspace Startup Program was there to provide Enplug with a world class Managed Cloud platform for developing its social billboard technology without worrying about the underlying infrastructure. Drop the Startup Team a note and let us know if you need help building your startup.
