Here are the minutes:

Castle Move,   0:00 – 3:30
Last podcast, we were located at the Weston Centre in downtown San Antonio. Since then, we have moved to the newest Rackspace headquarters which we call the “Castle” and is also a refurbished shopping mall. It’s a big space that we are eager to fill.

New Website, 3:31 – 5:50
In December 2009, we launched a brand new website. The vision was to bring the life of The Rackspace Cloud onto the website putting real people on the website, customers and employees.  The people you see on our website are real employees, not models (I know it’s hard to tell!). We have also implemented many customer stories with videos and testimonials. Check out our Who’s on The Cloud page. If you’d like to be featured, let us know!

3 Words for 2010, 5:51 – 19:53
This year, Emil Sayegh is taking on 3 Words for 2010 rather than a New Year’s Resolution. This is a tactic he learned from influential blogger, Chris Brogan. Emil’s personal 3 Words: Patience, Ownership, Trying and for Jason Seats it’s: Be a Father (his wife is due in March). The Rackspace Cloud 3 Themes for 2010 are:

– Fanatical Support,  the Cloud Way
– Be the Home of Mission Critical Hosting & App’s
– Community Engagement – Bring Technology Experts Together internally & externally.

The Cassandra Project,  19:54 – 23:15
Jonathan Bryce touches on the Cassandra Project, what it is and why we have committed resources to such a project.

Customer Announcement –, 23:16 – 26:21 has switched to The Rackspace Cloud for video transcoding. They needed the CPU burstable capabilities Cloud Servers offered.

Bitsource Study, 26:21 –  30:03
At the time we recorded this podcast, Bitsource had just published a study that showed a benchmark performance analysis between Amazon EC2 and The Rackspace Cloud. Chandler Vaughn touches on what that study means.

Questions from Customers

#1 – When we will have a Datacenter in Europe? 30:04 – 34:17
We are fully committed to building a datacenter in Europe. Right now, our first step is to build out our Chicago datacenter.  By the way, did you know Chicago has the highest population of Polish people outside of Warsaw?

#2 – When will Windows on Cloud Servers be here? 34:18 – 38:17
At the time of this recording, we hadn’t released Windows on Cloud Servers. Since then, Windows on Cloud Servers has been released. We will continue to work on rolling out new features.

#3- When can we have saved server images? 38:18 – 39:32
We do have a project in place that will allow this particular feature. We unfortunately do not have a firm date however, we hope that it won’t be more than 2 podcasts later!

Closing Thoughts, 39:32 – 43:00
It’s no doubt a busy year for The Rackspace Cloud. We are looking for passionate Rackers to come join our cause. We need Developers, System Engineers, Product Managers and more.

We will be recording the second podcast of 2010 soon, stay tuned. Make sure to subscribe to our feed.

Before leaving in 2016, Angela ran integrated marketing campaigns for Rackspace. She started in 2003 and did everything from Linux support, account management, sales, product marketing and marketing. She left Rackspace in 2005 to work for PEER 1 Hosting but returned in 2009 because she was interested in the cloud computing movement. Angela is a strong believer in the power of storytelling.

  1. I’m very pumped for server images & the new backup system. I have been waiting a LONG time. As soon as it comes, I have 22 EC2 servers that I’ll be moving over. Please hurry!
