December brings us World AIDS Day on the first day of the month, an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have passed. Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in December of 1877 and Marconi first broadcast his radio signal across the Atlantic Ocean in 1901. Disney’s founder Walt, golf’s Tiger Woods, lyricist Ira Gershwin and baseball great Ty Cobb celebrate birthdays this month. It was December 1903 when the Wright brothers first flew, and 1968 when Apollo 8 reached the moon. And in the words of Dr. Seuss, “How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”

In the USA, there are many days celebrating food, including nachos, deviled eggs, sandwiches, candy, homemade bread, cashews and Thanksgiving.
