TeamSnap Supports Over 40,000 Teams with the Power of the Cloud

If you play in a volleyball summer league with coworkers or run your child’s soccer team, you know there’s a lot of coordinating involved to keep the team running. TeamSnap, Rackspace Cloud customer, helps you with all that coordination including online registration, game scheduling, and communication tools. It’s a web-based and mobile solution tool that makes it easier to manage your sports team or group online.  Their biggest differentiator is the intuitiveness of their solution – they make it so any soccer mom or football dad can get in and begin using it immediately.

Many have caught on and TeamSnap is growing rapidly. Having the TeamSnap data on colocated servers wasn’t going to suffice any longer and they needed a solution that allowed for rapid growth while keeping costs low. They knew moving to the cloud was the right solution and the Rackspace Cloud has met all their needs.

Without large upfront cost, they’ve moved their infrastructure to Cloud Servers and Cloud Files. They use Cloud Servers for their application, database, and other servers, Cloud Files to store all user-uploaded assets, and Cloud Load Balancers to distribute traffic to their production and staging environments.

As traffic increases, they can easily and quickly spin up more Cloud Servers and can utilize the power of the internal network to send data to and from Cloud Files without incurring bandwidth charges. In addition, they actively leverage the power of the CDN technology to distribute all of their static assets like user uploaded images.

TeamSnap currently supports over 40,000 teams and groups in over 110 countries and is growing quickly.

Not having to worry about their infrastructure allows them to focus more on making TeamSnap better for their customers. Similar to Rackspace, customer service is the cornerstone of their organization and they make it a priority to answer every customer inquiry with a human voice, even if it’s from their CEO.  Customer feedback is what drives the innovation behind TeamSnap.

Chief Architect at TeamSnap, Wade Minter, keeps TeamSnap up and running. When it comes to IT, he knows that issues can arise and he wanted the peace of mind that his provider had his back.

“Knowing that we have Rackspace’s team of engineers around 24/7/365 has allowed our technical staff to spend more of their time focusing on the development projects that move our product forward.  When things break, and that’s going to happen anywhere, we know that we can hop on live chat or file a ticket and get someone who knows what they’re doing to work with us on the problem. Having access to cutting-edge technology with an easy-to-use API lets us spend more money on the things that are important to our business.”
