The News From Nice: Talking Open Cloud With Global Telcos At The TMForum

It is hard to imagine a nicer setting for a conference than Nice, the beautiful Mediterranean city on the Côte d’Azur in southern France. I had the pleasure of traveling to Nice in mid-May to present a keynote at the TMForum[1], a summit of global telecommunications providers. I was taken in by the azure waters off the Promenade des Anglais, the intimacy of old-world plazas and the resplendent lighting of the Hotel Negresco at night.

As much as I enjoyed being in Nice, the real pleasures – and the real surprises – were from the discussions I had with senior executives from global service providers who attended the TMForum. I’m pleased to tell you that there’s a lot of excitement about what we’re bringing to the cloud, especially from the global CSPs. In a rapidly-changing market full of new, non-traditional competitors, the CSPs are hungry for new products and services to offer their customers. They view cloud services as a big part of their future and see the ability to offer these services at enterprise scale and with guaranteed quality of service as a big opportunity.

There’s also growing awareness and excitement around the global service provider program[2] we unveiled in April. The initiative is designed to enable communications service providers to offer Rackspace open cloud services to their customers in their local markets and I spoke about it on stage at TMForum.

I’m looking forward to sharing more with you about this soon, but in the meantime, please check out this video interview[3] from the conference. You can also follow me on Twitter: @stevefmills[4].
