On Sunday (29th September) we celebrate World Heart Day which aims to promote a “healthy heart equity for all” and acknowledge Heart Heroes – people who encourage a heart-healthy life. This year, the day means even more to me as I’ve been working closely to our customer, the British Heart Foundation, a true Heart Hero which has a mission to beat heartbreak forever by 2030.
The mission is something that resonates with their entire team who are really passionate about the cause. This is a great example of a customer who understands its organisational goal and everything from IT to its people are truly united around one objective.
The tireless work by the charity has raised awareness of heart diseases which has helped to transform so many lives. But there is a lot more work to be done to support even more people. Over the next decade, with education and its ambitious goals, the British Heart Foundation aims to raise more funds, increase its charitable activities and membership. This is all underpinned by its website which is where people can learn, donate and buy items.
Its IT infrastructure is therefore fundamental to the charity achieving its pledge to beat heartbreak. It needed a robust and agile platform to keep the website up when fundraising traffic is high – like during World Heart Day. More than this, it required a consultative partner to advise on the right path to take which is where Rackspace stepped in. Through our consultative approach, Rackspace Professional Services worked collaboratively with the charity to ensure not a minute of downtime occurred during the six month migration.
The British Heart Foundation is the largest independent funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. With the charity’s efforts alongside World Heart Day’s own initiatives, increased awareness of this killer disease can help to win the fight against heart disease.
