As some of you will know, this week we launched OpenStack, an open-source cloud community committed to developing interoperable standards for cloud computing. Together with 23 other technology companies, we are making one giant leap to accelerate the pace of cloud innovation.
OpenStack will include two cloud infrastructure components, the first being OpenStack Object Storage, a fully distributed object store based on Rackspace Cloud Files, available today at www.OpenStack.org and the second component, OpenStack Compute, which will be a scalable compute-provisioning engine based on the Rackspace Cloud Servers technology.
As a result of this announcement our very own Fabio Torlini, EMEA Director and Head of Cloud spent two days speaking to the press and coordinating with others involved with the project. We also sent out Jenga sets out to our key contacts in the media to build up the mystique behind the announcement; Jenga being a fun way to allude to the ‘stack’ name!
It’s not every day that companies get the chance to announce such big news, especially alongside such high profile names, so we would like to take the opportunity to thank all those involved with the project launch and share just one of the pieces picked up on by the BBC.
