Understanding Rackspace Private Cloud as-a-Service

The world is truly embracing the concept of “as-a-service.”

As consumers we order cars, food and even household goods from our phones to be delivered, as-a-service, to our front door. We choose TV shows and movies from the comfort of our sofa, delivered as-a-service to our TVs, tablets and smartphones. We’ve consumed web-based email as-a-service for years.

In the enterprise IT world, businesses, too, are turning to service providers to have their infrastructure needs met. Servers, storage, networking — once available only as elements of physical data centers — are increasingly virtual and becoming easier to deliver as a service (known as Infrastructure-as-a-Service, or IaaS). For software developers building applications, tools and services already packed into a development platform (Platform-as-a-Service or PaaS) are easy to procure and even easier to use.

All of these “as-a-service” models have one thing in common — they focus on the end product the user desires. They eliminate the need for users to worry about how the end product is delivered or created.  These are “no assembly required” services that save customers time, money and frustration. The reason “as-a-service” offerings are thriving is because they do a superior job of solving customer problems and enabling opportunities.

So it’s no surprise that here at Rackspace, we believe the best way to enable businesses to succeed in the cloud era is by delivering private cloud as-a-service, or Private Cloud as-a-Service.

That’s because building, operating and managing a private cloud environment at scale is challenging to most organisations, and these challenges get in the way of enabling technological and business opportunities. Most companies lack the specialised expertise required to operate a cloud, don’t want to invest time and money in finding, hiring and retaining cloud engineers, and they don’t consider managing IT environments to be a core strategic component of their business.

Just like consumers, organisations are less interested in how the services they need are created or maintained. They just want those IT services delivered, on demand, to their specifications and that will enable faster innovation, improved operational efficiencies and greater cost reduction.

With Rackspace Private Cloud as-a-Service, or RPCaaS, we eliminate the challenges and deliver faster time to value with a dramatically reduced learning curve. With our delivery model, we generate successful customer outcomes, as evidenced by our consistent NPS scores greater than 50.
