X.commerce Redefines The Ecommerce Cloud [INTERACTIVE]

This new interactive piece details how eBay’s X.commerce is leveraging the cloud to build a massively scalable platform for online commerce. Merchants rely on developers to help them take their online businesses to the next level by building applications that allow merchants to take full advantage of ecommerce. The challenge becomes matching merchants with the right developers to implement new technologies for complete, scalable, end-to-end ecommerce experiences.

eBay is answering that challenge with X.commerce, an open commerce ecosystem. The ecosystem includes a complete collection of third-party commerce apps, plus offerings from familiar names like PayPal, Magento, and GSI Commerce. “The idea is to build the platform so that merchants can leverage technology to provide standout experiences across all types of devices and in the channel their customers want,” explains Venkata Yella, cloud engineering lead at X.commerce.

Instead of spending time and resources to build the technical infrastructure for the X.commerce platform, Yella turned to Rackspace Cloud: Private Edition and the OpenStack platform.
